Green Jellÿ is an American band that blends comedy rock, heavy metal, punk rock, and alternative metal. Formed in 1981 in Kenmore, New York, they are renowned for their humorous and theatrical performances, often featuring elaborate costumes and intentionally crude musicianship.
Originally named Green Jellö, the band changed its name due to legal pressure from Kraft Foods, the owners of the Jell-O brand, who claimed trademark infringement. Despite the spelling change, the pronunciation remains the same.
The band's lineup has seen numerous changes, with vocalist Bill Manspeaker being the only consistent member throughout its history. Notably, Maynard James Keenan and Danny Carey, who later formed the band Tool, were members of Green Jellÿ in the early 1990s.
Green Jellÿ gained mainstream recognition with their 1992 hit "Three Little Pigs," a humorous adaptation of the classic fairy tale. Their discography includes albums such as "Cereal Killer Soundtrack" (1993), "333" (1994), and "Garbage Band Kids" (2021).
