Lacrimosa

🇨🇭 Switzerland

Lacrimosa is a Swiss gothic metal band founded in 1990 by German musician Tilo Wolff. Initially rooted in dark wave, their music evolved to blend gothic rock and heavy metal, incorporating classical elements such as violin and trumpet. This fusion has positioned them as pioneers in the symphonic metal genre.

The band originated in Germany but is currently based in Switzerland. Tilo Wolff remains the primary composer and vocalist, with Finnish musician Anne Nurmi joining in 1993 to provide keyboards and vocals.

Lacrimosa's lyrics are predominantly in German, exploring themes of loneliness, sadness, darkness, despair, and love. Since the 1995 album "Inferno," each release has featured one or two songs in English, typically written by Anne Nurmi.

Over the years, Lacrimosa has garnered a substantial international following, particularly in Germany, Russia, Mexico, and China. Their discography includes notable albums such as "Stille," "Elodia," and "Fassade," each showcasing their dynamic range and the seamless integration of orchestral arrangements with metal elements.
