Tiktaalika is a progressive metal project led by British musician Charlie Griffiths, best known as the guitarist for the band Haken. The project blends elements of old-school 80s thrash, 90s tech-metal, and alternative rock, creating a sound that bridges the gap between King Crimson and King Diamond.
The debut album, "Tiktaalika," released on June 17, 2022, is a concept album inspired by themes of geological time, fossilization, transformation, and humanity's connection to the planet. The album features contributions from notable artists, including vocalists Tommy Rogers (Between the Buried and Me), Daniël de Jongh (Textures), Vladimir Lalić (Organized Chaos), and Neil Purdy (Luna’s Call). Guest musicians also include drummer Darby Todd, keyboardist Jordan Rudess (Dream Theater), and saxophonist Rob Townsend (Steve Hackett).
In March 2025, under the Tiktaalika banner, Griffiths released the follow-up album "Gods of Pangea." This album continues to explore the connection between classic metal influences and progressive music, featuring guest vocalists such as Tommy Rogers, Rody Walker (Protest The Hero), and Vladimir Lalić.
