**Real History**
Brazil had already been declared independent from Portugal in 1822, but it was in 1823 that independence actually took place.
One of the most emblematic forces of this movement was Maria Quitéria. She enlisted in the army disguised as a male soldier and participated on the siege of Salvador city, ending the Portuguese rule.
On July 2nd, she was received with celebration by the population of the city and later recognized as the 1st Brazilian woman to formally fight in a military battle.

**LYRICS**

Independence or death
She proved we should have no fear
Remember now it´s up to us

Years of oppression
It´s 1822 and she had just enough
she had something to prove

Three powers rising
Stuck to one dream

Bahia goes to war
For a country to be born
the siege cannot be broken
We will hold the Eastern shore

Look into the shine in her eyes
Tomorrow will not be the same
Hold your head as high as you can
Quitéria! Remember her nameLook deep into my eyes
Courage and will we hold in our hands
Gather the troops! keep marching ahead!
My sword for the words left unsaid

Drunk lusitanians. This is the home of God.
Step back! Step back! My body against your squad
Faith fills the convent to prevent its desecration.
Rape, murder, mock us all ... but you´ll never take the nation

Thousands have died while courage we found
The trumpet was ready to blowing so loud
Show me who you are
Cavalgar - Avançar - Degolar

Look into the shine in her eyes
Tomorrow will not be the same
Hold your head as high as you can
Quitéria! Remember her name
Look deep into my eyes
Courage and will we hold in our hands
Gather the troops
keep marching ahead
My sword for the words left unsaid

Freedom
We made it home
it’s a new season
Time to dethrone the Dragon of Tyranny

Look into the shine in her eyes
Tomorrow will not be the same
Hold your head as high as you can
Quitéria! Remember her nameLook deep into my eyes
Courage and will, we hold in our hands
Gather the troops! keep marching ahead!
My sword for the words left unsaid
